Lady of the Underground
-Sung by Amber Gray-
Curtains drawn,
Lights dimming,
I remember the way you stood.
A shower of Amber lights
illuminated the movements
of your mouth,
millions of gems glittering
along your arms.
Fates sang to the hum of a train,
pulling you towards a world below,
to your husband and his empire of decay.
The green of your dress flowing
among souls in despair,
ash and dust softened
by shimmering emerald.
The low and steady sound of the cello
lulled me into quiet fascination,
the rasp of your voice, glorious,
resonated as you asked,
What’s my name?
Our Lady of the Underground,
they answered in chorus, dutifully.
You grinned, gliding effortlessly
like a goddess in her own domain,
your necropolis,
your stage,
Persephone.
My eyes watered when the world faded back,
a world in shades of Gray
reality seeping through the cracks of my imagination,
and I couldn’t help but think
that I, too, would fit
that shade of green.
